Hocus Pocus 2 Gets Trailer & Release Date on Disney+
They\’re back! The Sanderson Sisters will be making their return to Salem this Halloween! The highly anticipated sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus, will debut on Disney+ this September. The live-action sequel will reunite Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the legendary Sanderson Sisters.
Hocus Pocus 2 will bring back the delightfully wicked trio for mayhem, 29 years after someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th Century sisters. Now the witches are back and looking for revenge. It\’s up to three high-school students to stop them from wreaking havoc before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve in Salem.
The cast includes Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Sam Richardson (The Tomorrow War), Belisa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), Tony Hale (Toy Story 4), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer) and Doug Jones – who played Billy in the original 1993 film. Lilia Buckingham, Juju Brener, Taylor Paige Henderson and Nina Kitchen complete the cast for the sequel.
The original 1993 film was received poorly by critics upon its release, but Hocus Pocus has since gained a cult following. The fan-favourite film saw three witches resurrect after 300 years to take revenge and begin a reign of terror after Max, who just moved to Salem, lights the Black Flame Candle.
A sequel has been in active development since 2019, with the original cast announcing their return for the sequel in May last year. Production started in October 2021 in Newport, Rhode Island, finishing in January 2022. After two test screenings reportedly resulted in mixed responses, re-shoots took place in June 2022.
There are plenty of exciting projects coming to Disney+ in the coming months. This includes the new live action adaptation of Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks, a Percy Jackson TV Series, Peter Pan & Wendy, as well as multiple Marvel and Star Wars projects.
Hocus Pocus 2 will stream exclusively on Disney+ from September 30th 2022.
