\’Jungle Cruise\’ Sequel in the Works at Disney

Disney is planning a sequel to their Summer adventure hit, Jungle Cruise – according to The Hollywood Reporter. Following its release in July, the film was met with a great response from audiences and mostly positive responses from critics.

Based on a classic Disneyland attraction, the film saw Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as skipper Frank Wolff and researcher Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively. Both stars are set to return for the swashbuckling follow-up. The supporting cast included Jack Whitehall, Édgar Ramírez, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti. 

The Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt-led movie has brought in just under $200 million at the worldwide box office. It was released in cinemas and on Disney+ Premier Access simultaneously, it was reported that $30 million was made from Premier Access\’ fee.

Johnson took to Instagram after the film\’s release when the film received the highest audience score of his career on Rotten Tomatoes. The film had its premiere at Disneyland, with the stars taking a ride on the infamous Jungle Cruise attraction.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra is expected to return with and the film’s Producing team. Michael Green, co-writer, is set also set to return to pen the script.

Jungle Cruise isn\’t the first Disneyland ride to get a film adaptation, Pirates Of The Caribbean gave Disney a hugely successful franchise of films. The Johnny Depp-led films have generated over $4.5 Billion at the Global box office.

Disney has few sequels in the works, including the follow-up to Cruella, following its success earlier this year. Disenchanted, the sequel to 2007\’s Enchanted, is currently shooting with Amy Adams returning. Also, Hocus Pocus 2 is set to start production later this year for a 2022 release.

No release date has been given for Jungle Cruise\’s sequel.
